T-men go after eateries now
City streets surrounding the Hussainsagar turned into battlefields while Eat Street, Jalavihar, Ohri’s restaurant, including tourist spots of Necklace Road were damaged in the stone-pelting by angry Telangana protesters on Sunday.
Violence marred the rallies taken by Telangana organisations and political parties to reach the Necklace Road venue. Protesters clashed with police in various parts of the city at Khairatabad, Telugu Talli flyover near Secretariat, Buddha Bhavan apart from Osmania University, leading to lathicharge and tear gas by the police.
Tension gripped many parts of the city. Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma said, “Major incidents took place on Telugu Talli Flyover and Necklace Road as they tried to break the cordon. In the stone-pelting, policemen were injured and had to be hospitalised. At Telugu Talli Flyover, the agitators tried to move towards the Secretariat and when prevented they pelted stones. We used teargas shells and water canons to stop them.”
Mr Sharma said inputs suggested that left-wing extremist elements had infiltrated into the march. Police estimated that around 80,000 persons participated in the march. He added that rioting cases will be booked and investigated by the Special Investigation Team of the city police.
T-STUDENTS CALLS BANDH
The T-Students’ JAC has called for closure of educational institutions on Monday to protest police action against activists during the T-march. Several schools and coll-eges declared a holiday following the call. The impact of the bandh is expected to be felt more in areas near the Osmania University campus.
