State rushes to appoint info commissioners
The state government rushed to appoint information commissioners on Thursday. Though it sat on filling up the vacancies for more than two years, it showed unusual urgency in issuing the appointment orders. The new RTI commissioners who were appointed are: M. Ratan, S. Prabhakar Reddy, C. Madhukar Raj and P. Vijayababu.
The government first issued orders appointing in-charge of the General Policy Matters and Administrative Reforms (GPM and AR) wing in the General Administration Department who in turn issued the appointment orders. The RTI commission falls under the GPM and AR wing. The post of principal secretary fell vacant after the incumbent J.C. Sarma was moved to the labour department. The government a few days ago issued orders making senior bureaucrat M.K. Sahoo as the in-charge of GPM and AR.
Incidentally, Mr Sahoo went on a four-day leave and in the meantime the EC gave its go on ahead for appointing the four commissioners. Sources told this newspaper that the Chief Minister Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was so keen issuing appointment orders on Thursday itself that he made GAD political principal secretary Mr Ajay Mishra as in-charge of GPM and AR through whom the appointment orders of RTI commissioners were issued.
