State may be first to use Aadhaar services
Nearly 5.20 crore people of the total population of 8.46 crore in the state, or about 61 per cent, have enrolled for Aadhaar cards till date. However, only 3.65 crore people have received Aadhaar cards, though Aadhaar numbers were generated for 4.49 crore people (86 per cent of the enrolment). The figures came to light during the review meeting conducted by the Chief Minister Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy with senior officials at Secretariat on Wednesday to review the progress of the Aadhaar project in the state.
Chief secretary Ms Minnie Mathew, principal secretary (planning), S.P. Tucker, principal secretary, social welfare, Raymond Peter, principal secretary (finance), V Bhasker, principal secretary to CM, Binoy Kumar, additional secretary to CM, N Sreedhar, commissioner, civil supplies, Harpreet Singh, secretary, information technology, Sanjay Jaju and officials representing UIDAI were present in the meeting. The CM agreed to complete the remaining Aadh-aar enrolment by the state registrar (AP state civil supplies department).
Of the total enrolment, the civil supplies department has accomplished 3.08 crore enrolment and non-registrars SBI have accounted for 1.73 crore. The rest have been managed by India Post 3.65 lakh, Central Bank 2.32 lakh, NSDL 6.07 lakh, RGI 18.57 lakh, UBI 4.03 lakh, Canara Bank 24,000 , SBH 3.12 lakh, IOB 25,000, BOI 37,000. The enrolment by non-state registrars are 2.12 crore, out of total enrolment of the 5.20 crore.
The Centre has informed that 5 districts in the state — Hyderabad, Chittoor, East Godavari, Anantapur and Ranga Reddy — were identified for a pilot project to link beneficiaries with Aadhaar. Having completed enrolment of 5.20 crore, (accounting for 26 per cent of country-wide enrolment), AP will probably be the first state in the country to roll out services based on Aadhaar. Tenders have been called for enrolment in the municipal areas of 15 districts. Tenders will be finalised soon and enrolment in these districts will be completed at the earliest.
