State gets ready to fight for Dinesh Reddy
The state government is preparing ground to approach the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict against the director-general of police Mr V. Dinesh Reddy. The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has made up his mind clear to approach the apex court by announcing that it is the state’s sovereign authority to appoint head of its police force. He made these comments during Indiramma Baata in West Godavari district a few days ago.
“We are just waiting for a copy of the HC judgement,” a senior official said adding that the grounds on which the state should challenge the HC verdict were identified. Sources said the government was also in no mood to issue orders altering the status of Mr Dinesh Reddy as the in-charge DGP. Since the government decided to challenge the judgement in toto, implementing it in parts is not required, sources pointed out. The state was of the view that Mr Dinesh Reddy by virtue of his seniority and experience in serving feeder posts will not miss the panel of three officers to be recommended by the UPSC even if the state wanted to implement the HC order.
