Speeding car hits street vendors
One person was killed and two others injured when a speeding car rammed into street vendors and a bystander at Vanasthalipuram on Monday afternoon. Police said the victim, S. Chandraiah, 55, a banana vendor from Sahebnagar, was declared as “brought dead” to Kamineni Hospital at LB Nagar, while the two other injured, D. Mallikarjun, 34, a popcorn vendor from Autonagar, and M. Yadgiri, 37, a bystander from Dilsukhnagar, were admitted in the same hospital. According to P. Shankar, sub-inspector at Vanast-halipuram, a white Scorpio car with registration number AP10AS2300 lost control after it was going at high speed and rammed into the three people near Red Tank.
“The vehicle was coming from NGOs Colony and going towards Red Tank. The driver first hit Yadgiri, who was standing on the roadside, and then rammed into the banana vendor Chandraiah and seriously injured him. The vehicle stopped after hitting the bicycle of a popcorn vendor,” he said. He added that the other vendor was declared to be out of danger by the doctors. Police said the vehicle belongs to one K. Vijay Kumar, a realtor from Dilshukhnagar. The car driver ran away from the spot, and is still absconding. Vanasthalipuram police has registered a case under Section 304 A of the IPC.
