The byelections will be held on June 12 and counting of votes will be taken up on June 15. The notification and process of filing of nominations will begin from May 18. The EC has decided to use electronic voting machines in all the 5,405 polling stations. In all, 32,89,060 voters in 18 Assembly and 11,12,332 voters in Nellore Lok Sabha seat are entitled to vote in the elections.

There have been a record number of bypolls in the state in recent years. Byelections were held in 23 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in the past three years, after the House was constituted in May 2009. These include Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly, vacated by Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and Ms Vijayalakshmi Reddy respectively, and 12 seats vacated by the TRS and the TD in May 2010, and another batch of seven seats vacated by the TD and the Congress in February 2012, besides Tekkali, Puliven-dula (due to the YSR’s death), and Banswada.
