The sons of two Congress ministers were suspended from the Youth Congress on Thursday for non-performance.

Baswaraju Sriman, son of BC welfare minister Baswaraju Saraiah, and Porika Sai Shankar, son of MoS for social justice P. Balram Naik, were suspended by All India Youth Congress general secretary and in-charge of the APYC, M. Lijju, when they could not give satisfactory explanations for their poor performances.

Mr Sriman was elected unopposed as YC chief of the Warangal East Assembly constituency and Mr Sai Shankar from the Mahbubabad parliam-entary constituency in July this year.

Sources said that four months after their one-sided election, they we-re staying away from training programmes, membership drives, spreading awareness on government sche-mes, review meetings and press meets. They did not respond to the showcause notices issued to them two days ago by Mr Lijju.

Porika Sai suspended for being absent

Porika Sai Shankar, son of MoS for social justice and empowerment Porika Balram Naik was suspended for his absence at a meeting convened by All India Youth Congress in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, in Hyderabad on Thursday.

While Mr Sai Shankar cited illness as the reason for not attending the meet, Con-gress sources said that the disciplinary action was due to the image makeover ushered in by AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

The suspension of Baswar-aju Sriman, son of BC welfare minister Baswaraju Saraiah, has come as another jolt to his future political career after the infamous incident involving Matwada SI T. Ramesh, who had registered a case against him in July for misbehaviour.

Recently, a Maoist outfit, KKW, had released statements to the media against Mr Sriman, warning him of consequences for his alleged role in land-grabbing activities which the youth leader had denied.
