Sonia Gandhi to revamp state Congress statAugust Column Story
Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to opt for a total revamp of the Congress party and the state government in August this year.
According to an AICC source, the revamp is part of an action plan to prepare the party for the 2014 elections.
The source said that Mrs Sonia Gandhi had expressed her displeasure over the performance of the party in the state.
She had communicated to the party leaders that "some drastic steps" would be taken and she would implement the proposed action plan in August.
The source said, “The Congress president would wait until August because the new President and Vice-President would be elected by then.”
The source pointed out that the Mrs Gandhi's main concern was the party's future in view of reports of the growing popularity of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the stagnation of the Telugu Desam Party.
According to the source, Mrs Sonia Gandhi has already made up her mind on certain important issues but is yet to disclose her stand on the Telangana issue or a possible change of guard in the state.
The Congress president expected “high dividends” from the 2014 elections.
The party high command had decided to prepare action plans for each state, irrespective of whether the party is in power or not, to ensure that the state units are prepared well in adv-ance to face the challenges ahead of the 2014 elections including any ‘unexpected’ developments.
