Smoke in restaurant at City Center leads to panic
Smoke emanating from a minor fire at Sahib Sind Sultan, a restaurant of the BJN groups at the City Center mall in Banjara Hills, created panic in the early hours of Tuesday, but there was no damage. As a result, the mall remained shut till 1 pm on Tuesday. Police said the fire broke out in the kitchen due to suspected short circuit. As the restaurant was closed, the doors were broken open by firemen to clear the smoke.
The entire mall premises was enveloped by the smoke for some time, but the fire quickly died down on its own. There was no damage as such, police and fire officials said. Two fire force engines were rushed to the scene, while the equipment at the mall was also functional. The City Center said the hotel will be back in business from Wednesday. It was only that some cleaning needed to be done, and that the equipment in the kitchen had turned oily and stained.
Swati, a college student, said, “I had come to the mall with my friends to spend some time, but the whole area looked scary, and firemen were everywhere in the forenoon.” Last month, a one-year-old niece of police commissioner A.K. Khan had died after a tragic fall from the third floor of the same building.
