Sircilla: Probe ordered into use of tear gas shells
Y.S. Vijayalakshmi is in the centre of all the action. Her deeksha for weavers in Sircilla was the reason why her convoy was pelted with stones by Telangana activists. The police had resorted to use of tear gas when Ms Vijayalakshmi’s convoy came under attack at Siddipet. Now the state police department has ordered a probe into the use of tear gas shells against the agitating Telangana activists at Siddipet in Medak. Nizamabad DIG was asked to investigate and ascertain if there was indeed a need to use teargas to control the agitators.
DG (law and order) S.A. Huda said, “Elaborate security had been provided to the convoy of Ms Vijayalakshmi right from Lotus Pond to Sircilla in view of the opposition by TRS for the deeksha. The police even tried to take an alternative route to avoid Siddipet and other trouble-prone areas, but YSRC insisted on the scheduled route via Siddipet.” Around 29 TRS activists at Kakatiya University were taken into preventive custody in Warangal Town. At Karimnagar, two persons were arrested while attempting to burn a bus. In Medak, 60 people, including Harish Rao, K. Taraka Rama Rao and Gampa Govardhana were also taken into custody.
