Shoes thrown at Vishnu’s vehicle

Emotions ran high on the premises of the State Human Rights Commission on Thursday, as actor Vishnu Manchu appeared before it to file a complaint against miscreants who had tried to barge into his residence on Wednesday night.

Members of the Brahmin Association also landed up in front of SHRC and raised slogans against the actor, his actor-producer father Mohan Babu and their movie Denikaina Ready, which they allege shows brahmins in poor light.

Telangana advocates who had come to file a petition in another case before the SHRC, too joined hands with the Brahmin Association and warned the actor-producer not to hurt social sentiments.
The Brahmin Association, in its petition to the SHRC, had complained against Vishnu and Mohan Babu saying that its members who had assembled in front of the actor’s house were beaten with sticks. The petition further stated that the actor and his father had threatened the members of the association. Four members were severely injured, said the petition.

Vishnu Manchu, however, has denied the allegations and asserted that he held the Brahmin community in high regard. Some anti-social elements, taking advantage of the situation, had tried to attack his family, he said.

The police had to be called in to stop the mob from entering the SHRC premises. In the melee that followed, one of the advocates hit deputy superintendent of police Surender Rao who was in mufti.
However, Mr Rao kept his cool. “I don’t know who those men were, but I expe-ct an apology from them,” he said, pointing out that they had unnecessarily tried to assault a police officer who was merely observing from the sidelines.

Vishnu Manchu did not file any petition. His car was showered with footwear as it left the premises.
The human rights commission has ordered the city police commissioner to give his report by November 28, based on the four petitions filed before it by the Brahmin Association.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
