Server glitches hamper tax collection
Technical glitches in GHMC’s server played spoilsport on Monday, the last day for payment of property tax dues. About 350 bill collectors waited to remit their collections in the cash collecting centres at the GHMC head office and circle offices, but could not do so till evening, said Vinay Kapur, Bhagyanagar municipal employees union general secretary. Bill collectors and property owners also queued up at AP Online, eSeva and citizen service centres, but could not avail of the facility. When Rs 500 was entered, it would appear as Rs 5,000.
“Though we brought this to the notice of higher officials, the problem was not fixed. It was the same at all e-seva centers and other online services too,” Mr Kapur added. About Rs 6 crore was supposed to be collected on the last day of payment, but this did not happen. “The authorities are neither upgrading the system servers nor are they deploying technically efficient programmers to fix the problems,” Mr Kapur said. GHMC special commissioner Navin Mittal said they were in the process of upgrading the server. “It was a small problem that only affected our internal collection. Since we have already given one month extra to remit the tax dues, there is no need to extend the date,” Mr Mittal said.
