Security to Vijayalakshmi raises hackles of T MPs
Congress MPs from Telangana region on Tuesday met AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and complained against Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for what they called unnecessary additional police bandobast during YSR Congress leader Y.S. Vijayakashmi’s dharna at Sircilla on Monday.
MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, G. Vivek, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Madhu Yashki Goud, S. Rajaiah and Manda Jagannadham met Mr Azad and complained against the Chief Minister for deploying nearly 10,000 police personnel for security at Ms Vijayalakshmi’s protest programme.
They told Mr Azad that the administration even ordered the police to charge the baton on “innocent people” of Telangana who “questioned Ms Vijayalakshmi’s intentions and tried to protest”. Speaking to the media subsequently, the Congress MPs said the YSR Congress is a “known political rival” of both the Congress and the government.
“Then how can the government sanction such heavy deployment of police all along her route, as the dharna in Sircilla was against the Congress government?” they asked. They also alleged that while the Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy is seen as suppressing the Telangana movement by even sending Congress leaders from the region to jail for agitating for separate statehood, at the same time he is protecting “political enemies of the Congress”. “What message does he want to convey to the party cadres?” the MPs asked.
