Schools for ban on bandhs
Private schools in the city took out a massive rally on Saturday against frequent bandhs being called by student organisations since the commencement of the new academic year in June. High school students participated in large numbers in the rally, which started from Bagh Lingampally, demanding that the government bring the schools under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). The rally was a huge success with about 5,000 students from different city schools converging at Sundaraiah Park in Bagh ligampally by 10am. Fed up with frequent educational bandhs, several parents and citizens voluntarily participated in the rally in support of the students.
The AP Recognised Schools' Managements Association, which organised the rally, said the voluntary participation of large numbers of students and parents should be an “eye-opener” for the government to bring in legislation to exempt the schools from bandhs and bring them under the ESMA. Students’ organisations and political outfits should not to disrupt schools frequently in the name of bandhs, it said.
