Three SSC students, who were on their way to write their exam in Medchal, were mowed down by a speeding school bus on Saturday morning at Jaganguda Crossroad near Shamirpet.

The students of the Government School, Jaganguda, were triple-riding when the mishap occurred. The students who are working part-time in a private firm, were taking their supplementary exams. All the three died on the spot.

The school bus, which belongs to Saraswati Vidyaniketan of Aliabad, later hit another vehicle on which a couple and a kid were travelling. While the woman died on the way to the Gandhi hospital, her husband and his nephew escaped with serious injuries.

The dead have been identified as M. Naveen, son of M. Sattaiah, M. Madhu, son of M. Krishna and Y. Mahesh, son of Y. Mallesh — all aged 17 — and residents of Addaraspalli near Shamirpet. The woman has been identified as D. Punyavathi, wife of Sriramulu and a resident of Jaganguda.

Shamirpet police seized the bus. The bus driver, Sudhakar, was taken into custody for rash and negligent driving.

Killer school bus was on its way to pick up students

The speeding school bus that mowed down four people, including three SSC students, was empty and was on its way to Jaganguda to pick up students.

Shamirpet inspector of police P. Kasi Reddy said, “The school bus was overtaking an APSRTC bus when it hit the two motorcycles.”

“My son takes the bus every day. Unfortunately, on Saturday he decided to go with his friends,” cried Mr Krishna, Madhu’s father.

Naveen’s brother Venkatesh, a businessman, was unconsolable. “We bought him a new motorcycle, but fate took him away from us,” he said.

A wailing Sujata, mother of Mahesh, said, “Though my son Mahesh was working, he wanted to complete his SSC.”
