The Congress government at the Central and state levels is committed to the continuance of welfare programmes for the uplift of the poor, said Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday. The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the hostel buildings of a residential school at Elchireddypalli, Pinapaka mandal as part of his three-day 'Indiramma Baata' in the district. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy interacted with students and participated in a public meeting.

He assured the people that the government was increasing allotment of funds to welfare schemes and development works, with Rs 1,000 crore per month being spent on works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) across the state to provide employment to the poor. The funds for this would be increased, the Chief Minister said.

A sum of Rs 3,200 crore had been sanctioned in the current year as subsidy for farm mechanisation, he said. To curb corruption in the issue of various certificates, Mee Seva centres are being inaugurated and at least 70,000 certificates were being issued every day across the state, with this figure to be increased up to 1 lakh by the end of this year, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said. Later in the day, the Chief Minister opened a neonatal baby care centre and Sanjivini health scheme at the Bhadrachalam area hospital.

‘PM keen to solve gas issue permanently’
Singareni coal miners are like soldiers, said the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday at Manuguru. The Chief Minister was on a visit to P.K-1 underground mine at Manuguru. Interacting with workers, the CM said that he knows a lot about Singareni workers and the importance of coal producing power.

The CM's visit gains importance as Singareni workers had led the agitation for se-parate Telangana last year. Mr Reddy assured the coal miners and Singareni officials of resolving their problems if they had any specific ones. Speaking to reporters at the UG mines, the Chief Minister said that the decision of the Central government to allot gas to the AP state is not a temporary adjustment. He explained that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are determined to resolve the issue of gas allotments to the state permanently.
