Satya Sai Trust enjoys state’s confidence again

Differences between Satya Sai Central Trust which runs Satya Sai Baba empire and the state government seem to have been sorted out.

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has blessed the Rs 80 crore drinking water schemes in 118 habitations hit by fluoride in Anantapur including Puttaparthi, proposed by Sri Satya Sai trust.

The Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, will launch the drinking water scheme in Puttaparthi on April 24. On the same day, the Satya Sai Nitya Anandanam Prasada Pathakam would be announced.

The trustees met the Chief Minister accompanied by revenue minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, major industries minister and Sai devotee, Ms J. Geetha Reddy on March 31 and sought the government’s approval for the new drinking water project.

The CM heard the proposals and expressed government’s appreciation at the initiative taken by the Central Trust and promised to extend all support, a source said.

Trustees Mr S.V. Giri, Mr V. Srinivasan, Mr S.S. Naganand and Mr R.J. Rathnakar and others explained to the CM about the programmes undertaken by the Trust and sought his blessings.

“There was no discussion on the proposed intervention in the Trust affairs or any other aspect regarding irregularities. The discussion was on developmental works,” the source added.

Interestingly, the report of a three-member government panel that went into the financial and other aspects of the Trust including alleged irregularities is lying with the Chief Minister for further action since nine months.

The Trust denied any wrongdoing. The three-member committee submitted its findings on the financial report of the Trust after a spate of allegations, to the then principal secretary to government (revenue), Dr K.V. Ramanachary.
