Rs 4L stolen off 500 ATM cards
Three youngsters who stole around 500 ATM cards and withdrew nearly Rs 4 lakh from them were arrested by the Chilkalguda police on Friday.
The cops were checking vehicles in Padmaraonagar when they arrested the trio.
The accused Gadha Manikanta, 19, Shiva Kumar, 20 and T. Sathya Shiva Kumar Goud, 20 stole the ATM cards and their pin numbers by breaking into BC welfare corporation office at Amberpet. They had gone there for the verification of the certificate of T. Sathya Shiva Kumar Goud in May 2010.
Initially they withdrew Rs 2,000 with a stolen ATM card. Later, they took a house on rent for Rs 1,000 in Champapet and withdrew money from various ATM centres at Barkas and Chandrayanagutta areas in June, July 2010.
They again broke into the BC welfare office and stole another carton of ATM cards with pins. This time they withdrew money from Barkas, Gayathri Nagar and Chandrayanagutta areas. They used the stolen money to buy motorbikes.
Manikanta purchased one Bajaj Pulsar 220 CC bike, Siva Kumar purchased Hero Impulse, Naveen Reddy cleared the mortgage on his Honda Stunner vehicle and Sathya Siva Kumar Goud leased money to his friends. The bikes bought with stolen money were seized. One of the accused Navin Reddy is absconding.
