Ravindra Reddy to retire from active politics
Senior Congress leader and minister in the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet, D. L. Ravindra Reddy on Sunday announced his retirement from active politics. Dr Ravindra Reddy who has twice written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi offering to quit the ministerial post, has now decided to call it a day. “I cannot continue in politics where corruption is the rule of the day and politics over election has hit an all time low. Candidates offering money to buy votes ( Rs 1 thousand per vote) is quite disturbing for me,” Dr Ravindra Reddy said.
Politics of corruption rules the day and there is no meaning in continuing, he stated and said that he would convene a meeting of the Congress party workers next month and formally announce his decision. Referring to the sorry state of affairs of the state, the senior minister pointed out that for a plan of Rs 40,000 crore per anum, Rs 20,000 crore were coming from borrowings at a whopping interest repayment of Rs 12, 000 crore, which itself showed the bankrupt state of financial planning.
He added that the Rs 1200 crore earmarked for construction of godowns for the benefit of farmers, have been entirely diverted to other departments, while not a single rupee was availed by the state government for the National Rural Health Mission programmes despite the Centre’s willingness to finance the same.
