Ranga Rao denies any ‘deal’ with CBI
Stylish Holmes director Tummala Ranga Rao, 59, said that he had no quid pro quo arrangement with the CBI as alleged by his co-accused N. Sunil Reddy in the Emaar scam. Ranga Rao said this at the CBI court in his reply to objections raised by Emaar accused Sunil Reddy to his ‘Tender of pardon petition’.
“The statement of the petitioner (Ranga Rao) can be tested by the accused only when it is presented as evidence during the trial and not otherwise. Such questions can’t be raised or examined before the investigation is completed,’’ Ranga Rao told the court. “The accused, without disclosing the facts that he knows, can’t be allowed to dispute or question the facts disclosed by the petitioner and recorded before the magistrate. He can’t seek adjudication and facts even before the trial. He is at liberty to raise objections during the trial,’’ submitted Durga Prasad, counsel for Mr Ranga Rao.
He also pointed out that Sunil Reddy isn’t a party to the petition and his objections cannot be taken on record. “The co-accused is not competent to tell the court that the statement of the person concerned is false and therefore, pardon can’t be granted. It’s entirely between the court and the accused applying for pardon. Hence the objections are liable to be rejected,’’ defence counsel argued. The CBI judge B. Naga Maruthi Sharma posted the case to April 9 for further hearing.
