Prez poll: CM dons teacher’s hat
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday assumed the role of a teacher, briefing Congress MLAs on how to cast their vote in Presidential elections scheduled for Thursday. Mr Reddy explained the voting procedure to all the party MLAs, except 17, present at the specially convened meeting at the Jubilee Hall. “If there had been more candidates, mock polling would have become necessary. When there are only two candidates, there is no need for mock polling. I explained to the MLAs to put ‘1’ mark against Mr Mukherjee's name and not to give second preference vote to Mr Sangma,” Mr Reddy told the media.
The CLP meeting was over within fifteen minutes. Among the 17 MLAs conspicuous by their absence were Alla Nani and Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao, who have resigned from the party. Meanwhile elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the Presidential election in the Assembly polling station tomorrow. Out of 293 MLAs eligible to vote, TD (85), TRS (17 plus one Independent) and CPI (4) have decided to abstain. Besides the 186 MLAs, three MPs will also cast their votes in the Assembly polling station.
