Presidential poll: TRS may abstain
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is contemplating to abstain from the Presidential elections.
Sources said that most members are against participating in the election in response to the Cong-ress-led UPA government’s failure to take a decision on statehood for Telangana, as promised.
TRS leaders are also furious with Congress’ presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee’s “anti-Telangana” stance.
The TRS has 17 MLAs, and one associated MLA, and two MPs — party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Vijayashanti.
Interestingly, Mr Rao, for the last past few days has been saying that the UPA government has decided to announce statehood for Telangana after the presidential ele-ction and even claimed he has received positive ind-ication in this regard from New Delhi. Howe-ver, Congress MP Madhu Yashki denied having any knowledge about it.
TRS politburo member B. Vinod Kumar admitted that although the mood was against participating in the presidential elections, the final decision would be taken by the party at a meeting scheduled for next week.
