Police avert trouble over burning flag
Police averted trouble at Shah Ali Banda and Santoshnagar areas early on Tuesday when a crowd gathered at a religious structure at Alia Market seeing a religious flag burning. The police clarified that the flag caught fire from an earthen oil lamp and the issue was sorted out with the community leaders.
A vehicle was burnt at RN Colony of Santoshnagar at around 5 am. “A two-wheeler was set on fire in the area. However, it had nothing to do with the on-going curfew,” said a police official. Though there were some reports of chain snatchings in curfew areas, police officials denied the same and said that only a couple of snatchings had taken place in Moghalpura on Sunday.
Speaking to media personnel, the East Zone DCP, Mr Y. Gangadhar, said a decision on lifting the curfew would be taken only after reviewing the situation. The four-hour relaxation in curfew has come as a big relief for the locals as they were running out of rations. The locals have not been getting milk, newspapers and other essential commodities.
