Please save Jagan: Vijayamma to PM

YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday and demanded a probe by a Supreme Court judge into the alleged harassment suffered by her son Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy at the hands of the CBI.

After submitting a memorandum, Ms Vijayalakshmi and Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy had an exclusive meeting with the PM for about 10 minutes. Sources said Ms Vijayalakshmi broke down while talking about her son’s alleged harassment. In her memorandum, she stated, “We request you to order a probe by a judge of the Supreme Court and also CVC into the manner in which the CBI officials are acting with ulterior motives against Jagan Mohan Reddy and the vengeance with which it is being done.”

Why was Jagan arrested, Vijayalakshmi asks PM
The YSR Congress has been alleging that CBI joint director V.V. Lakshminarayana has been taking the case too personally and has joined hands with rivals of Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Sakshi media group. Ms Vijayalakshmi told reporters later that she explained to Dr Manmohan Singh the events leading to the arrest of her son just a fortnight before the crucial bypolls.

The Pulivendula MLA had also taken strong exceptions in the memorandum to the inclusion of YSR's name in the FIR and Jagan's arrest. She said, “I told the PM that taking the name of YSR in the FIR was a wrong move. I also asked him what was Jagan’s mistake? Why was he arrested when he was just Accused No. 51 in the case? I also asked him why Jagan and his associates were being harassed?”

The memorandum further said that the Jagan's arrest was a deliberate ploy to prevent him from campaigning in the byelections and sought adequate protection for him in view of what she called a threat to his life. Dr Singh allegedly assured her that he would look into the issue and ask the CBI director and to rectify the problems, if any. Sources said that the PM also spoke about YSR's contribution to the Congress and said it was unfortunate that the family of YSR was now out of the party.
