Plan to stop dam work on Godavari
Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha has moved the AP High Court seeking a direction to stop construction of Jyoti Rao Phule Dummugudem Nagarjuna Sagar Sujala Sravanthi (JRPDNSS) project. She told the court that the government was going ahead with the project without administrative clearance of technical advisory committee of the Central Water Commission and investment clearance from the Planning Commission for the project.
She contended that as the project was proposed across the inter-state river Godavari, administrative clearance was mandatory for the project. Referring to the case of Indira Sagar (Polavaram) project, she said the whole project got mired in legal wrangles and disputes, as it commenced without obtaining prior statutory or administrative clearances.
2010 violence in court: court seeks report
A division bench comprising Justice V.V.S. Rao and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan of the AP High Court has asked the police to identify the advocates responsible for the violence that marred the court premises in September 2010 and submit the list to it.
While dealing with a suo moto contempt case, the bench asked the police to peruse the video footage available with them and identify the advocates. Pursuant to the direction of the bench, the Advocate General office placed certain CDs before the bench stating that the police had recorded some incidents that took place on September 15, 16 and 17 in 2010, in the court during Telangana agitation.
The bench directed the police to submit the list by June 18.
Cops intrude our privacy: yadagiri dad
P. Bala Krishnaiah, father of goon P. Yadagiri, who is accused in Gali cash-for-bail scam, has moved the High Court seeking direction to the police not to invade the privacy of all the kith and kin of the accused in the name of “investigation”. The petitioner questioned if the police had an unfettered right to invade their privacy at any time and take them to the police station. The petitioner sought the intervention of the court to issue necessary guidelines in the manner in which the police should conduct investigation without damaging the public image of the accused beyond repair, and also issue guidelines to the print and electronic media on coverage of criminal proceedings.
