Pipeline burst affects water supply
Drinking water supply was affected in many areas in Qutbullahpur municipal limits after a water pipeline burst at Pet Basheerabad on Tuesday. The 1,200 mm main water distribution pipeline that supplies Manjira water from Hydernagar reservoir to almost all the areas in Alwal municipal limits and Qutbullahpur, burst around at 5.30 am in NCL Colony.
Morning-walkers said they heard a loud thud and soon tonnes of water flooded the roads. In no time, water entered the cellars of apartments, houses and commercial establishments. “The seats of my car were soaked and there was a foul smell too. Although the water had receded by 9 am, it ruined the interiors of my car,” said K. Jagan Mohan, a local resident.
Sudha Krishnan, a resident of Suchitra Enclave, said, “The entire city is suffering from acute water shortage. Bore wells have dried up. It is heartbreaking to see drinking water going down the drain. Water Board should have been careful.” Water supply was stopped and repair work was taken up by the officials. When contacted, Water Board chief general manager (tra-nsmission) Visveswaraiah said that while water supply was restored in Alwal area, it would be restored to Qutbullahpur areas soon.
