Peace prayers mark Id
Over 2,00,000 people offered prayers at the historic Mir Alam idgah, the biggest Id-ul-Fitr congregation in Hyderabad. They were among millions of Muslims who celebrated the festival harmoniously and devoutly in Andhra Pradesh. The day began with an array of Muslims, attired in their best, offering prayers at hundreds of mosques and idgahs or open grounds. The imams delivered special sermons, followed by the Id namaz. While the Mir Alam idgah here saw the maximum number of faithful, Macca Masjid was witness to the second-biggest congregation.
Special prayers for the Muslims of Assam and Burma marked the namaz and prayers. The imams urged Muslims to come forward to help their brothers who were living in miserable conditions in the relief camps. The Jama-e-Islami, Students’ Islamic Organisation and other organisations collected funds to help the victims of Assam and Burma violence after the prayers, outside the idgahs and mosques.
Moulana Abdullah Quraishi Al-Azhari led the prayers at the Mir Alam Idgah congregation. The other major gatherings were seen at the historic Macca Masjid near Charminar, idgahs at Madannapet, Chilkalguda, Ujale Shah, Bilali AC Guards and Saat Gumbad. After the Id namaz and prayers, Muslims celebrated their festival by greeting their relatives and friends.
Sheer khorma, the festive delicacy, flowed liberally and many Muslim households distributed it to their neighbours too. Id passed off peacefully. Security was beefed up by deploying several extra platoons in the city, especially in the old city. Traffic restrictions and diversions near idgahs and major mosques paved the way for the smooth conduct of the Id prayers.
