Park Hyatt hotel opens in city

A galaxy of top politicians, film stars, industrialists, business tycoons and others graced the grand opening here on Sunday of Park Hyatt, the only luxury brand hotel in India from global hospitality major, the Hyatt Group. Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, and several other Union and state ministers led the inaugural ceremony.

Azad showered praise on industrialist and MP T. Subbarami Reddy for setting up a world-class hotel here. “In India, we have more best-quality five star hotels than in Europe. By opening Hyatt here, TSR has made us all proud,” Azad said. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy hoped that Park Hyatt would bring fresh international recognition to Hyderabad.

“The city will host several mega global events in the coming days. There’s a need to build more such hotels. Nearly 1,000 hotel rooms are required for delegates participating in the global biodiversity meet in October. Delegates from 194 countries are attending the event,” the CM said. These apart, he said, the city is going to host global medical meet in February, 2013, besides the world agri meet in October.

Union ministers Kamal Nath, Jaipal Reddy, veteran actors Akkineni Nageshwar Rao, Hema Malini, Jayaprada, film maker Yash Chopra, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, senior Congress leader D. Srinivas, state ministers Vatti Vasantha Kumar, Kasu Krishna Reddy, D.K. Aruna, Jana Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana, besides Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, Chiranjeevi and Jayasudha were present.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
