Paradise lost: Garbage, drainage add to misery
It could well be paradise lost at the city’s famous Paradise Circle. A locality renowned for the popular Paradise Hotel, and also housing a hospital, a rest house, government offices and a shopping complex, it’s the stink that hits the senses first in the area. Two rickety bins with spilling garbage and an overflowing drainage is no good sight either.
While there is a public convenience in the locality, interestingly christened “Modern Public Toilet”, many people have perhaps never seen its innards, happy to relieve themselves on the road. While hundreds visit Paradise Hotel every day, there are also other important destinations in the area: Sunshine Hospital, a Parsi dharamshala, the Central Discom office, a police sub-control room and a shopping complex — all facing the always-overflowing garbage bins.
Neither the health wing officials of GHMC nor the managements of these private establishments, however, seem to have made any serious effort to keep the surroundings clean. “It is the duty of municipal authorities to keep the city clean, and even Paradise Hotel management should make efforts to keep the area outside their premises clean,” said K. Jeevan Goud, who claimed to be a regular customer, adding, “When Paradise Hotel charges so much for a plate of biryani, the managements should at least take care of hygiene in its vicinity.”
G. Vinod, a resident of SR Nagar, said most families avoid approaching the popular eatery from its rear end. “We usually avoid the Sindhi Colony road due to the awful sanitation situation. The other side of Paradise Hotel is clean but lacks parking space,” he said.
