Owner of Melting Point hookah parlour arrested
The owner of Melting Point, a hookah parlour, and three members of its management, who were absconding, were arrested at Masab Tank on Thursday, following a complaint lodged on Tuesday by an Intermediate student who was allegedly kidnapped and physically assaulted by them. According to the Banjara Hills police, P. Deepak, the student, had thrown a party for his friends at the hookah parlour and had not paid the bill, amounting to Rs 18,000.
Kadar, the owner, and his three employees, Kaleem, Saif and Akbar, kidnapped him and beat him up for two days. Meanwhile, keeping up their close watch on hookah bars in the city, the Golconda police and the west zone police on Thursday raided a private parlour being run without a licence and detained 14 youngsters, including four minors, found smoking hookah there. According to officials of the Golconda police, the hookah centre, ‘Zedds Gaming Parlour’ at Toli Chowki, was raided at around 7.30 pm.
While officially a “gaming centre”, it let all customers, including minors, to smoke hookah, the police said, adding that food was also served there. The detained individuals would be released after counseling, police said. A case has been registered against the parlour’s owner, Jisha, who is now in Bengaluru.
