Opposition fury spills onto roads

A day after the Centre raised the price of diesel by Rs 5 per litre and put a cap on the number of subsidised LPG cylinders in each household at six annually, all major non-Congress parties in the state hit the streets on Friday, decrying the “anti-people” decisions.

While the Telugu Desam, YSR Congress, TRS, CPI, CPM and BJP said the hike in diesel price would lead to rise in prices of all essential commodities, the Left parties are learnt to have invited TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu to join a nationwide agitation against the twin decisions.

Mr Naidu is likely to visit New Delhi soon to chalk out details of an agitation. The TD chief led a dharna near KBR Park where he said the decision to make diesel dearer would put an additional burden of Rs 1,500 crore on farmers. Demanding a rollback on both the hike in price of diesel and the cap on subsidised LPG, Mr Naidu said, “Households would have to shell out Rs 350 extra on each LPG cylinder.”
