Opposition demands action against Gali, tainted judge
The Opposition has sought stringent action against suspended CBI judge Pattabhi Rama Rao for allegedly taking a huge bribe from mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy in lieu of bail.
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Dadi Veerabhadhra Rao said Janardhan Reddy should be hanged for corrupting all wings of the administration and unleashing anarchy in the country.
“He (Janardhan Reddy) should be hanged. While the SC and HC are waging a war on corruption, he corrupted the judge dealing with his case,” said Mr Rao.
He also said several people who bestowed confidence in Janardhan Reddy and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy have gone to jail and the CBI judge would follow soon.
“If these kinds of people are allowed to live, they will further destroy the system in the country. People will lose faith in the judiciary,” he said.
TD chief N. Chandraba-bu Naidu, party leaders Nama Nageshwara Rao, T. Devender Goud, CPM leader B.V. Raghavulu, CPI secretary K. Naray-ana and others expressed anguish over the judge’s alleged corruption and demanded deterrent punishment to him.
"We have been demanding for an independent judiciary. Selection of judges should be entrusted to an independent body. Judiciary will be clean only if there is no political interference," said Mr Raghavulu.
Mr Nageswara Rao said some corrupt people have joined politics and destroyed the entire system. "Thanks to the judiciary, several scams have been unearthed and guilty punished. But attempts are now being made to destroy the very fabric of democracy--- the judiciary," he said.
