Fortis Hospital licence stayed
The HC on Tuesday stayed the licence given to Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, to conduct liver and kidney transplants and homograft, till further orders. A division bench, headed by Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar, passed the orders after vacating the order of a single judge who had stayed the cancellation of the license by the State government following a petition by the hospital. The matter is listed for final disposal for Wednesday.
Major Pankaj Rai, whose wife Seema Rai died while she was admitted for kidney transplantation at Fortis Hospital, filed the appeal against the hospital. Mr Rai had alleged that his wife, who underwent kidney and pancreas transplant procedures on May 2, 2010, died due to septic shock. He also alleged that the hospital never took his consent to operate on his wife for pancreas transplant and that the hospital did not have licence to do the complicated procedure.
