No T, no Congress: suspended MPs
Congress MPs from the Telangana, suspended by the party from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, made it clear on Wednesday that if the party was not going to concede the demand for a separate state by 2014, they would not contest the general election as party candidates. The MPs, who had disrupted proceedings in the House, protested peacefully at the Gandhi statue in Parliament House on Wednesday by tying black ribbons around their mouths.
Gutta Sukhender Reddy, one of the eight suspended MPs, told the media, “If the Congress high command is not going to honour the genuine demand and feelings of Telangana people, how can anyone expect us to contest again on party tickets?” The MPs met in the Central Hall of Parliament and decided to raise the Telangana issue again after the four-day suspension period ends. They will also gather feedback from voters on their suspensions before resuming their protest.
