Nims takes over Rs 130cr new hospital
After more than a year of dilly-dallying, the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, has finally taken over the Rs 130 crore specialty hospital and accident (trauma) and emergency hospital at Banjara Hills in the city from the contractors Unity Infra projects. It remains to be seen when the building can be put to use for patients. On Friday evening, Dr K.T. Reddy, associate professor of hospital administration and deputy medical superintendent, who was in-charge of the project during its construction, was officially directed to take over the building in the presence of the NIMS director, the executive registrar and other representatives from Unity Infra projects and the consultants HSCC.
Meanwhile, a source at the hospital has said that the Banjara Hills hospital is likely to be inaugurated by the Central health minister on May 26 or 31. “However, the buildings still lack the required medical equipment for patients. The specialty hospital also doesn’t have oxygen pipelines in place,” the source stated. The source stressed: “It would take at least a few more months for the hospital to cater to the patients. In this scenario, if a formal inauguration takes place, all efforts about commencing the hospitals would be forgotten and like the Bibinagar project, this too would be lying waste without being of any use to patients.”
