Nims to face builder’s ire

The builders of the Nims’ 200-bed Accident (Trauma) and Emergency Hospital and the 300-bed Nims specialty hospital at Banjara Hills — Unity Infra Project Limited —have threatened to lock the Rs 110-crore building and evict the administrative offices operating illegally from there, if Nims does not take over the building by April 30. If the takeover does not happen, Unity Infra authorities says their rules permit stopping staff entry.
Nims has been reluctant to take over the building and backed out several times though the building was completed more than a year ago. It also wants the builders to take responsibility for water, electricity and gas supply to the building, even though it was not part of the contract.
Involvement of some vested interests in Nims and illegal monetary transactions are the reasons for the delay in building takeover, revealed sources both at Nims and Unity Infra.
A spokesperson from Unity Infra said that they have been irked by the repeated shifting of the takeover date from April 1 to the end of the month and have threatened to lock employees out, “As we are authorised to do so. Two floors of the building are illegally occupied by administrative and HR staff.” Taking charge of water and power supply and the gas connection too, they felt, was not within the terms of the contract. “Having completed the civil works, our work is over. We are also yet to get Rs 12.76 crore from the government,” he added.
