Naidu starts dialogue with SC leaders in TD

The Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, met Scheduled Caste leaders of his party on Thursday for a decision on the issue of categorisation of SCs into the A,B,C, and D groups. Meeting leaders from the Madiga community at his Jubilee Hills residence, Mr Naidu explained the need to support categorisation, specifying that it would benefit the majority Madiga community and also the party in the long run.

Among those present in the meeting were senior party leaders from the community Mr M. Narasimhulu, Mr P. Ramulu, Mr A.S. Ratnam, Mr P.V. Rama Rao, Mr Srisailam and Mr Vivekananda. On Friday, the TD chief will hold consultations with party leaders from the Mala community, who are opposed to categorisation, party leaders said. “We had a good discussion. It is imperative to support SC categorisation to enable deprived classes among them to get a bigger share of quota in jobs and education,” Mr Narasimhulu told this newspaper.

He claimed Madigas constitute nearly 60 per cent of the state’s total SC population of 1.07 crore. Asked about TD’s stand on the issue, he said the party would support categorisation since it would not only benefit the deprived classes, but also the party. “The Madiga community will certainly appreciate TD’s stance if it supports categorisation,” he added. Meanwhile, several women TD leaders and children tied rakhi to Mr Naidu at the party office in NTR Trust Bhavan on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima. The party’s cultural secretary and artiste Mr Balu, brought a 666-foot-long and 4-foot-wide rakhi that he believes would gain entry into the Guinness Books of World Records.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
