Naidu sets his vision on 2014 to rebuild TD
Drawing a blank in the recent byelections, Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu has spelt out ‘Vision 2014’, to reinvigorate the party by taking the popular route. On Monday, Mr Naidu promised reservations and fiscal sops to several caste groups and communities, based on their population, and exhorted people to throw out the Congress government, saying its continuance further will destroy the state.
“We will provide 100 seats to Backward Classes in 2014 elections,” he said, adding, “Under our new policy, reservations and allocation of funds will be based on population to remove disparities.” Addressing the party's two-day general body meeting at NTR Trust Bhavan here, Mr Naidu promised to em-power castes that have been “denied political power” till date. On the agenda in the two-day meeting are a discussion on TD’s recent poll debacle, a plan to put the party back on track, get key sections of the electorate such as BCs, minorities, women, youth, farmers, SCs, STs back to the TD fold, and prepare the party for the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. Observing that reservations in local bodies should be increased from the present 33 per cent to 50 per cent, Mr Naidu promised reservations in all party and nominated posts if the TD returns to power.
