Naidu likely to revive third front
Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to keep away from the Presidential elections has brightened the prospects of a Third Front. Sources in the party said Mr Naidu would certainly try to revive the Third Front with like-minded parties soon. “Mr Naidu has made it clear that he will neither support the Congress nor the BJP. The only option left now to play a role in national politics is to forge a Third Front,” a senior TD leader told this newspaper.
The TD president explained that the party had kept out of the Presidential elections since it has been fighting a running battle with the ‘anti-people Congress party and opposed the ‘communal’ BJP. When NCP leader P.A. Sangma met Mr Naidu, he said his prospects of winning the polls were bright, saying that the 'Third Front' would be the deciding factor. However, Mr Naidu ditched Mr Sangma. The TD chief had interacted with the CPI, BSP, CPM, AIADMK and other parties for the Third Front, but did not pursue the matter.
