More gas soon, Power woes will ease: Kiran
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that more power will be imported from other regions and agencies to ease the current power crisis in the state. The CM said that the Gas Authority of India chairman B.C. Tripathi agreed on Wednesday to supply 2.5 MMSCMD of RLNG to AP. “This will help us in generating 500 MW of power by gas-based plants,: he told the media at Jubilee Hall this afternoon.
The CM said that the state authorities were also trying to import more power through the existing Southern Corridor to the tune of another 500 MW by July end. “With this and another 100 MW from the Jajjar power plant, we will be able to overcome the crisis,” Mr Reddy said. He said that this way the problems associated with the existing Southern Corridor, which has only 1500 MW capacity to import power to all the southern states, would be eased out by 2013 once the additional corridor comes into operation. Referring to the demand by the Opposition that the government bear the FSA to the tune of Rs 8,500 crore for which the Electricity Regulatory Authority took up the hearing, the CM said, “It is not possible for the government to bear the FSA as it is being levied for the power that was consumed by the customers in the preceding years, and if we do, from where do we get the money?"
He said that when the power authorities had brought proposals to hike charges to the tune of Rs 11,000 crore this year, he had brought it down to Rs 5,000 crore, thereby subsidising Rs 6,000 crore already. Referring to the ongoing controversy over minister T.G. Venkatesh's comments on IAS officials, the CM said, "those who are in power should observe more restraint while making comments." When asked about MP V. Hanumantha Rao’s comments on how erasing YSR's image should begin at the CM's Camp Office where a life-sized portrait was installed, Mr Reddy said, “It is better to avoid criticising departed leaders. YSR was a Congress leader till he breathed his last, let there be no controversy on this.”
He said he was not aware of any recommendation by the ten-member Cabinet committee on erasing YSR’s schemes. PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, who was by the CM’s side, added that there was no specific scheme named after YSR. Referring to the Supreme Court's observations on the state government not preventing the Telangana advocates’ rampage in the AP High Court premises two years ago, the CM said the government would abide by whatever directions the apex court gave in the matter.
