Monsoon to arrive on time this year

Andhra Pradesh will have a normal monsoon this year (96-104 per cent rainfall) and there is hardly any chance of surplus rain with the rainfall not crossing 110 per cent, said the Met department. With the state already in the throes of a water crisis at the onset of summer and all reservoirs running almost dry, the amount of rainfall received is crucial to the state’s economy.
As per the Met department’s tentative predictions, the monsoon, after reaching Kerala on June 1, is expected to arrive in AP (Rayalaseema region) by the first week of June. “If any system or trough develops over the Arabian Sea, and moves in a north-westerly direction, that would delay the monsoon’s entry into AP,” said assistant Met officer R.V. Subba Rao. He said there is a likelihood of the monsoon being in full force from July to September. Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is predicted in the next two days.
“Due to the formation of a trough over Chhatti-sgarh, Rayalaseema, interior Karnataka, South TN and Lakshadweep there would be convective rainfall in Telangana and Rayalaseema regions. However, day temperatures would continue to range between 38 and 41 degree Celsius,” he said.
