MLAs take oath, promise responsible role
YSR Congress Legislature Party leader Y.S. Vijayalakshmi on Friday said her party would play the role of a responsible Opposition, taking up people’s problems as its main agenda.
She thanked the electorate for returning YSR Congress MLAs with resounding margins in the recently held bypolls and promised to bring ‘YSR Raj’ whenever general elections were held in AP.
Ms Vijayalakshmi asked all the party units across the state to hold dharnas on June 25 against the “callous attitude” of the government in dealing with farmers’ problems.
“Although the government was aware of the kharif season and the onset of the monsoons, it failed miserably in making seeds and fertilisers available to farmers in the state,” she told her party’s newly-elected MLAs before they proceeded to the Assembly to take oath as members.
Ms Vijayalakshmi, who came to the party office for the first time, told the MLAs that party president and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would soon be honourably acquitted and come out of prison.
Later she accompanied the 15 MLAs to the Assembly hall where they took oath as members.
Speaker Nadendla Mano-har administered the oath to the members and gave them a copy of the Constitution of India, Rule Book etc., as a courtesy.
The Speaker also administered oath to the newly-elected Congress MLA from Ramachandrap-uram, Thota Trimurthulu, in his chambers.
