Minister denies liquor shop link
The name of minister for horticulture, Mr Ram Reddy Venkat Reddy, has cropped up in the confession of liquor don B. Balraj Goud, who was arrested by the Anti- Corruption Bureau in April. Mr Goud, owner of the Sai group of wine shops at Chikkadapally, told the ACB that is probing the liquor scam, that the minister’s relatives are important members of a syndicate of 150-200 wine shops in Hyderabad and Cyberabad, and Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy districts.
“The syndicate comprises Yadgiri Reddy and Narsa Reddy who are the relatives of Rami Reddy Venkat Reddy. The duo formed a syndicate in Medak district too and manage all the wine shops… I walked out of the syndicate in Medak and am maintaining my own shops in Hyderabad,” said Mr Goud in his statement. Mr Ram Reddy Venkat Reddy, however, denied the allegations and said that he does not own any liquor shops. Mr Goud also revealed his contacts with one Netaji of Ranchi, a local politician who is connected to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Mr Goud revealed that he used to pay bribes to policemen of the city task force and the special task force of the excise and enforcement departments. Those named by Mr Goud are then Abids ACP Vijaya Kumar, Chikkadapally ACP, Gandhi Nagar inspector and Goshamahal traffic CI. The cops of Gopalapuram traffic PS, Chikalakguda PS and Shahainyatgunj PS were also named.
