Midnight fee GO shocks students

Though the state government fixed the fees for engineering courses for this academic year (2012-13) with a midnight government order (GO) on Saturday, it came as a shock for many as engineering degrees became almost “unaffordable” for students from economically backward sections.

As had been feared, poor students who secured top ranks in Eamcet cannot opt for the elite colleges unless they can afford the fees that will now range from Rs 51,800 to Rs 1.05 lakh.\ The state government has fixed common fees (for both merit and management quotas) of Rs 35,000 for 578 colleges and a differential fee for 67 other colleges ranging from Rs 51,800 to Rs 1.05 lakh.
