Metro Rail plans eco-stations in Hyderabad
The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd has finalised a unique “cantilever elevated design” for Metro Rail stations coming up in the city.
In all, there will be 66 stations at 63 locations. Except for the three joint stations of Ameerpet (corridors I & III), Parade Grounds (corridors II & III) and MGBS (corridors I & II), all the other stations will be “cantilever stations” resting on only pillars in the middle with no side pillars.
“This cantilever elevated station design is planned for the first time in India and is a rare engineering feat by L&T structural engineers,” said N.V.S. Reddy, managing director, Hyde-rabad Metro Rail.
Each metro station will be 140-metre long and 20- metre (65 feet) wide. All the stations are designed to accommodate six-car (coach) trains. With the entire station resting on only about 10 heavily reinforced central pillars and without any pillars on the sides, the road below will look open, spacious and airy.
The eco-friendly station design includes footpaths, bus-bays, auto-bays, and car and two-wheeler parking areas.
The special pedestrian facilities include sky-walks below the viaduct and street furniture at the ground level.
