Matrusri student is GATE topper
Kande Rakesh, a final year Electronics and Communication Engin-eering student from the city, topped the national-level Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2012), the results of which were announced on Thursday.
Rakesh achieved first rank at national-level, scoring 67 out of 100 and a GATE score of 1,000.
Meanwhile, Atul Kum-ar, a student of Bapatla Engineering College, secured first rank in Agriculture Engineering. Students from the same college, Md Imran Shaik, secured 29th rank, V. Vamsi Krishna secured 94th rank, Tagore secur-ed 110th rank and P. Mah-esh secured 141st rank.
Several other students from the state figured in the top-50 list. Arjun Ravindranath secured 21st rank in Instrumentation enginee-ring, while Dhanunjay Deshmukh came 29th in Mechanical Engineering.
Rakesh, a student of Matrusri Engineering College, Saidabad, is the son of Mr K. Rajender, a senior assistant in the CID. He came first among 1,76,944 candidates who appeared for GATE in Electronics and Commu-nication Engineering.
“I was expecting a rank in the top 10. Achieving first rank at the national-level is a dream come true for me. I want to take admission in the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru,” said Rakesh.
Two students — Aniket Singh and Suprovat Ghoshal — of GATEFORUM, a city-based coaching institute, secured second and third ranks.
