Man tries to burn himself in front of dgp office
An eyewitness to a murder case attempted to commit suicide in front of the DGP’s office on Saturday, alleging that he was being harassed by the police and a local corporator. Vamshi Krishna, 29, a resident of West Marredpally, who is employed as a cameraman with a local channel, poured kerosene over his body and tried to burn himself.
However, Saifabad policemen foiled the attempt and took Vamshi into custody. The man was the prime witness in the murder of a local Congress leader, Jagdeeshwar Reddy, in Ramanthapur in 2007.
Vamshi told the media that ever since the murder, he had been tortured continuously by the Uppal police. He said that he had also approached the State Human Rights Commission, alleging that senior police officials and the slain leader’s brother and local corporator Parameshwar Reddy had been threatening him to give testimony against a few accused they named.
