Lorry rams school bus, 2 kids die

Two children died and 10 others were seriously injured when a lorry rammed a school bus on NH 44 near Kodikonda checkpost in Chilamattur mandal on Monday.

The mishap occurred when the bus, after picking up students from Morampalli and Digu-vapalli villages, was on its way to school (Sai Yesu Vidyalaya) at Chilamattur.

When the bus was crossing the highway, the lorry coming from Anantapur ploughed into the bus.
Vaddi Kishor, 8, of Morampalli and Vaddi Soni, 9, of Diguvapalli, died on the spot while 10 other children sustained severe injuries. One of them, Sanjana, a nursery student, was rushed to Bengaluru as her condition was critical.

On hearing about the accident, hundreds of villagers, gathered at the accident site, and set the lorry and school bus on fire. They staged a protest on the highway, venting their ire against the people’s representatives and authorities for not constructing a flyover at the site.
