Leaders fail to get cop transferred
Politicians who had lobbied for the transfer of Medak SP Avinash Mohanty have failed in their efforts.
During the recent transfers of 45 IPS officials in the state, the SP was not on the list.
Supporting Mr Moha-nty, a group of people from Sangareddy town launched a signature campaign and sent letters, right from the President to the state director-general of police.
Mr Mohanty, an IPS official, is the elder son of former DGP A.K. Mohanty. He took charge as Medak SP in April 2012.
Government Whip and Congress MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy was at war with Mr Mohanty and came down heavily on him recently regarding the alleged caning of Congress workers for using high decibel sound systems.
In their representation, the locals said, “The law and order situation is under control and the crime rate has come down after Mr Mohanty took charge. The SP has been taking stern action against anti-social elements. The local politicians are trying to cause disturbances.”
Recently, TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu also criticised the SP for not allowing the use of 2G sound system at Kashipur during his padayatra.
