Lawyer seeks to meet woman alone in hotel
An advocate who offered to help a woman and her young daughter in filing a complaint in the SHRC for free, asked the woman to meet him in a hotel “alone”. The incident came to light when the young woman made an oral complaint to SHRC PRO Gopal Singh with the help of some mediapersons.
Hazi Begum, 20, also lodged a complaint with Abids police in this regard at the instance of the Commission. Hazi Begum and her mother Choti Bi from Amberpet approached SHRC about a month ago against Choti Bi’s husband Mohd. Khasim who deserted her. According to the PRO, advocate Rammohan Reddy took Rs 1,000 from the petitioners following which a petition was filed in the Commission and the same was admitted subsequently. The case was posted to April 23.
Choti bi was deserted by Mohammed Khasim who owns a dairy farm in Peerjadiguda near Uppal.
The advocate denied the charge. “She is my client. I accepted the case as they were poor and fell on my feet,” he maintained. He said that some fight was going on between him and the SHRC, which could be behind the allegations.
